How Do Artist Services Really Work?

In the age of social media and being bombarded with opportunities it’s hard for creatives to know what’s what. Picking artist services is no different.

In 2021, two creatives decided they wanted to start a company with the sole purpose of plugging the holes left by entertainment companies, big and small. 

What they found from a decade of research and development, working with 1,000s of artists all over the world of all genres? 

The need for SMA$HES. 

Artist Services Companies (the good ones anyway) are usually tied to top tier distribution platforms and are only offered to the top 10% of their rosters. 

So what is Artist Services at its core? 

Simply put, it’s a combination of products, services and tools that Labels and Artists use to build their awareness, streaming and video views. 

Simple right? Not by a long shot. 

Truthfully, there is a small community of digital service providers who control 1,000s of playlists, Instagram pages, Tik Tok pages, Twitter Meme accounts, etc. 

These people usually have friends who whitelabel their services with a small fee attached for themselves. 

The problem is these people also have friends, who have friends, and the fees get added every step of the way, raising the cost to you, the customer. 

Now a $300 campaign, with 2-3 middlemen, is now $1,500. 

That happened fast.

But what about the guys offering plays for $25? 

Rarely have we seen those result in royalties, frequently however we have had artists come to us after having a record flagged or taken down because of bad promo. 

We made the relationships, paid for the dinners, lunches, brunches AND drinks to finally add one of those digital insiders to the SMA$HES team.  

That’s why we are just now launching after years of knowing the problem.  

We had to solve it first.
